Best Time for Morning and Evening Adhkar
Morning Adhkar or Adhkar As-Sabah (supplications recited in the morning) are not connected only to the time when the sun rises but the best time of the day for making Dhikr (reciting words of remembrance) is after the dawn prayer (Fajr prayer) and after afternoon prayer (Asr prayer) till sunset, because Allah “The Most High” Says:
“And glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting.” (Quran 20:130)
The Prophet (ﷺ) peace and blessings of Allah be upon him said:
“Whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then sits and remembers Allah (makes Dhikr) until the sun rises, then prays two Rak`ahs (units of prayer), will have a reward like that for Hajj and ‘Umrah (major and minor Pilgrimage), complete, complete, complete.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 586)
Evening Adhkar or Adhkar As-Sham (supplications recited in the evening) start after the sun passes the zenith (at the beginning of the time for Zuhr/afternoon prayer) until the sun sets, and at the beginning of the night.
How to Structure Morning and Evening Adhkar
They typically include:
1. Seeking refuge in Allah “The Most High” (Isti’adhah) from Shaytan (cursed devil)
أَعُوْذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
“A’oodhu billaahi minash-Shaytaanir-rajeem”
Meaning: “I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed Satan.”
2. Remembring and Praising Allah (Tahlil, Takbir, Tasbih, Tahmid)
Tahlil: “La ilaha illa Allah” (لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ), meaning “There is no god but Allah”

Tasbih: “SubhanAllah” (سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ), meaning “Glory be to Allah”
Tahmid: “Alhamdulillah” (اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ), meaning “All praise is due to Allah”
3. Salawat (sending peace and blessings) on the Prophet ﷺ
4. Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings for protection
5. Dua for forgiveness and Jannah
6. Prophetic duas for safety, health, sustenance
The structure of morning and evening Adhkar is somewhat flexible and subjective, as long as:
- You are reciting the authentic Adhkar prescribed by the Prophet ﷺ.
- You recite them within the correct timeframes (morning and evening).
You do so with sincerity, presence of heart, and reliance on Allah “The Most High”.
