1. Perform Wudhu (Ablution)

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Whenever you go to bed perform ablution like that for the prayer, lie or your right side.” (Sahih Bukhari 247)

2. Dust and shake your bed three times saying Bismillah

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“When anyone of you goes to bed, he should shake out and dust it off thrice with the edge of his garment, for he does not know what has come on to it after him.” (Sahih Bukhari 7393)

This prevents harm from insects, dust, and jinn.

3. Sleep on your right side, with your right hand under your cheek

“When you go to bed, perform ablution as is done for prayer; then lie down upon the right side.” (Sahih Muslim 2710)

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

“Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017)

“This is a kind of sleep that Allah dislikes,’ or ‘that Allah hates.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3723)

“(At bedtime) cover the utensils, close the doors, and put out the lights, lest the evil creature (the rat) should pull away the wick and thus burn the people of the house.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6295)

Aishah (RA) reported:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not sleep until he recited (Sūrah) az-Zumar and Banī Isrā-īl ( Al-Isrā).” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3405)
